SonderJewlz – Travel Diaries | Volunteer Trip: Spanish, Florida, Music, and More!

How's it going Lazulis? Over April break in sophomore year of highschool, I stepped away from the usual piles of homework and music performances to embark on something truly special — a volunteer trip that blended everything I love most: travel, language, and music.

I spent time in Florida with my college counselor before traveling to a small community in Nicaragua, where I taught children the fundamentals of music theory while simultaneously practicing my Spanish. I helped children understand basic rhythms, turning music into something accessible to all. Watching their eyes light up as they clapped along or created their first melody reminded me why I fell in love with music in the first place.

In between classes, I practiced my Spanish, explored local spots, and worked on my lesson plans.

Music is more than notes and scales; it’s a bridge connecting hearts, cultures, and stories. I’ve come home inspired to spread my knowledge of music to all.

I'm so glad I was able to plant the seed of music into young and impressionable kids!
